Dealership moved to 1139 Atlantic Avenue.
The Vollmer dealership remained on Atlantic Avenue into the middle 1950s. Packard ceased operations in the summer of 1956. This building is still standing, and is utilized by an engineering firm.

In Nov 1972 I purchased the entire Packard Parts
inventory of this dealership. In 1956 the family
had all of the parts moved to the [dry] basement
of the family home, a big Victorian house. The
owner's wife was very happy to be rid of the parts
inventory so the basement could be finished off as
a "rec-room".
Every part was in place on the original shelving,
nothing had been used or sold before my visit.
Also included were all the showroom items, signs,
literature, anything Packard, except the family
kept the father's PMCC sales awards & rings. The
price for all of it? "I won't take less than
$125.00" My reply? "Sold!" If I remember
correctly, the man's name was Charles Jr, the son
of the original owner. |
